Meet the Newest Member of the Summers Clan!!

Meet Samuel Andrew Summers.
Yesterday, I went in for routine check up with my OBG, and they found traces of protein in my urine and my blood pressure was spiking up like crazy. So, to be on the safe side she sent me in to L&D to be monitored. My biggest concern about delivering early was that the baby was very small. But he did real well in the delivery and he is here. He was woping 4lbs 7oz, and 18 inches. Yeah, our little guy is real little but he is strong and healthy. I was induced because I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and that is why the baby was not growing any more. So now he is out and we plan on plumping him as much as we can. But overall he is doing real well and we are so excited to have him here with us.

Laredo Motherhood Syndrome

So, this weekend I had my childhood friend and my mom came and visited for my baby shower. I also had a high school friend come and visit later on Saturday afternoon. I have come to realize a very important thing about the young mother's of Laredo from my generation: that we are so totally clueless. I think I have mentioned this before in one of my blogs, but I thought it was only me that was clueless about how to run a household, how to cook, how to make my home a safe heavan, and how to be a teacher for my children. Wifehood and motherhood entail many responsibilities and sometimes we forget how divine our role is, especially when we get all caught up in work (if we work), or trying to keep with the Jone's. I can't blame my mom for not being better prepared for my role both as a mother and wife, but I know I could have learned so much more if I had understood the importance of motherhood and wifehood as a teenager. I think that had I not taken a Home Economics class in high school I probably would have never known how to bake cake out of a box. I think I was always so overwhelmed and intimidated with my mom's delicious cooking that I never bothered to learn how to cook her meals. Now I am almost 30 and I still can't quite get that Spanish rice. I feel like I am always playing catch-up. Hopefully I will be able to teach my kids the things I am trying so hard to learn now.
