112th Washington Birthday Celebration

I have been planing this trip for over a year now. I had told my mom that I would go down to Laredo when it was not too hot. So I figured that the coolest thing for my kids to do down there was the parade. It is a 3 hour long parade with lots and lots of things to see. So we went down there this weekend. I AM STILL recovering. So this will be little Sam's second trip on the road, and I have made a new discovery, he does not like road trips. The boy does not travel well at all. I have also discovered that as nice and comfy the Chicco carseat may look, it is not very breathable. And if you are anywhere in central or south of central Texas you may opt for a carseat with cotton, so your kid does not sweat like a mad man. Anyhow, so the drive could have been better if little Sam was not so hot all the time. My cousin drove with me and we were able to catch up. Down in Laredo we were able to see the parade. It was real fun. I really enjoyed it. Little Bradley did too. I only had a chance to have a few of Laredo's delicacies since Brad discourages me to go to Nuevo Laredo. I of courseI could not leave without having some carne asada and mexican sweet bread. Of course I had my mom's delicious food. We also got together with other cousins. I got to meet two new family member and everyone got to meet little Sam.

Another Unforgettable FHE

Lately, we have been trying to set our priorities right. We have been making a huge effort to spend more quality time together as a family. This week for FHE, Brad thought it would be a lot of fun to go kite flying. It was an awesome idea. We drove down to Mueller Lake and met with one of his work buddies. Alex, as Chancho prefers to call him (real name: Les) invited us to fly his awesome kite. It was so much fun to fly kites, although I did not do much of it. Little Sam and I just hung out with Tanya (Alex's wife according to Chancho) and their cute little dog Plug. We just sat back and enjoyed watching Chancho go crazy. It started to rain so we had to cut the kite flying short. So we proceeded go down to South Congress to have a delicious pizza from Home Slice. This was my first time there, and I have to say that it was great. Love the food and the atmosphere, very much like Austin.

Married? Divorced? Single? ?????

There has been quite a controversy about my relationship status with Brad on my Facebook profile. We used to show to be married to each other, but now it only shows me as married, Brad as single. So this is what happened. I started getting very strange emails from weirdos out there on my profile. The last one said, "Hey pretty lady....want to hang out tonight." This was from a complete stranger and I got quite concerned. I honestly thought no one other than friends could see my profile, or that my partial profile would only show through other friends' profile. Well, I started thinking about how this weirdo found me. As it turns out, Brad has an application on his Facebook that he later added unto mine called Mob Wars. It is through that silly computer game that I was getting all more than once crazy email. So I asked him to change everthing on his account so that they would not send me any more junk. I will also be eliminated from Mob Wars and loose all my crack, weapons, and prostitutes. So no worries, we are still together, although most days its more like I am still together and he is still together with his new girlfriend, the firetruck. If I would be replace it probably would not be for a another woman, it would be for a mechanical instrument i.e. firetruck, xbox, bicycle, etc. anything that does not speak or has the capability of complaining. Sad, but true.

What I miss about Laredo..

So lately I have been reconnecting with my roots, my people, and my hometown: Laredo. As much and as hard as I try to stay away from Laredo, there is always something I will miss. There is something mystical and enchanting about Laredo. Maybe it is that it is so close to Mexico, maybe it is that everyone speaks Spanish in a US city, or who knows maybe it is the water we drink there. Regardless, there is always something I miss, and it not the weather. It is the homemade food. No matter how long it has been I can almost savor the food in my mouth. So here are a few of my favorite places to eat in both Laredo's.
1. El Rancho su Majestad -that choriqueso, there is nothing more delicious on the surface this earth than a warm corn (homemade) tortilla filled with choriqueso.
2. Tacos de Papa- there is this little house on Calle Obregon that sells these delicous tiny flautitas de papa with the hottest salsa. You have to eat almost twenty of them before you fill up, but watch out that salsa will get you.
3. Tostadas La Sibera- Oh!! These tostadas are to die for, I remember getting one just before my braces got tightened. Delicous. Highly recommended.
4. El Tokyo-Caldo de res, absolutely the best. Love this little place right across from where Mas Mas used to be right on Guerrero Avenue.
5. Tacos El Venado-openned all night, nothing better could fill you up after dancing the night away than a couple of El Venado Taco with some cilantro and onions and rich salsa.
6. Taco Palenque-everything is good there.
7. Un Elote- there is no place on earth that makes the best corn on the cob than the street vendors in Mexico. Love the mayonnaise on it with the red chile powder and that cheese that they sprikle on it, Yummy!!!
8. Conito-this shop has been closed for quite some time, it was right across from the cemetary back when I was in high school. I loved to get a snow cone better known as a "raspa". The lady who ran this placed lived just behind the little store. She made her own syrup, and the best part of it all was that she would add a scoop of ice cream at the bottom of your snow cone. My favorite flavor was pineapple. This place was always so refreshing during the scrouging summer time.
9. El Pescador-a shrimp cocktail. Yummy, I remembe going to eat at this place a lot as a kid. My mom is from very tropical place so sea food has always had a very special place in my tummy. .The other great thing about this place are their rolls, so buttery. Yummy. Red Lobster has nothing on this place.
10. Hot Dogs with Bacon- not only are the corn on the cob from street vendors delicous but these incredible smoking hot dogs. This is a recipe for a heat attack, but so worth it. Add bacon to anything and you will see your world change.
These are not in any particular order, just in the order they popped in my head. Food is also a way communicate to me a good time. I tend to remeber events by what was served. My mom said that when I was a little girl about 3 or 4 we visited a relative of our and I wanted to leave because she did not offer us anything to eat. I guess that was my way of say I was hungry. I have always been a hungry girl and am always looking to learn to make new things.

Putt, putt

Yesterday we decided to have our FHE activity at the Round Rock Putt place. We had lots of fun there. Little Bradley was especially having fun putting in our golf ball in the hole. So Brad and I had one shot to get the ball in the hole, because if we didn't little Bradley would help us put it in. We decided that we will make this FHE activity once every three months. Maybe he will let us us put the ball in the hole next time.

Look at Me!!

Lately I have not posted many picutures of our kids. And I was thinking that I was short changing my little Sammy because I have not taken nearly as many pictures of him as I did with little Bradley. Anyhow, I have been trying to catch Sammy smiling. He has such a cute smile and such a deep laugh, just like his brother's. So here it is to the four month old little Sammy.
